Shed Measurements & Orientation

  • Sheds are measured gable wall x side wall. An 8’ x 10’ shed will have an 8’ gable wall and 10’ side wall. Conversely a 10’ x 8’ will have a 10’ gable and 8’ side. This is the framing size.
  • Side wall heights are low 5’-6”, medium 6’-0” and high 7’-0”. This is measured inside floor to top of wall. The peak will be above this.
  • Outside dimensions will be 6” greater. Example 8’ x 10’ will have an outside measurement of 8’6” x 10’6”.
  • Inside floor dimension will be 7” less. Example 8’ x 10’ shed will have a floor space of 7’5” x 9’5”.
  • Standard overhangs add 12” to the length & width of the shed roof. Example: 8’ x 10’ shed will have a roof 9’ x 11’.
  • Low & Medium wall sheds - doors must be placed in the gable wall, windows can be placed in any wall.
  • High wall sheds - doors & windows can be placed in any wall.
  • All doors are standard 6’ tall.
